“Understanding Pogroms” course included in the “Atlas der Guten Lehre” of the Austrian Ministry of Science

We are happy to announce that the Austrian Ministry of Science has decided to include the CEU Jewish Studies research seminar “Understanding Pogroms”, taught by Jan Rybak, in its “Atlas der Guten Lehre” (“Atlas of Good Teaching”), which highlights examples of teaching excellence throughout the country.

At the thirty-fourth annual conference of the Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN), held in Budapest, students enrolled in the Jewish Studies research seminar ‘Understanding Pogroms’ presented some of the findings of the research project, led by Alfred Landecker Lecturer Jan Rybak at CEU.

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, a pivotal roundtable discussion took place at CEU in Vienna to mark the fifth anniversary of the first lockdown in Austria. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only been a public health crisis; it has also exposed deeply entrenched issues of racism, antisemitism, and structural discrimination in societies worldwide.

Field trip to Moravia, 30-31 March 2025

Together with the Kurt and Ursula Schubert Center for Jewish Studies at Palacký University (Olomouc), the CEU Jewish Studies Program organized a two-day study tour of Jewish sites in Moravia. In Olomouc, Petr Papoušek, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, warmly welcomed our group, showed us the Olomouc synagogue and told us about the history and current activities of the Czech Republic's third-largest Jewish community.
