
The Central European University (CEU) in Vienna invites you to apply for an English-language
Course in Jewish Heritage
This special course will be taught from January to March 2026 by faculty from CEU’s Jewish Studies Program and Department of Historical Studies. It offers an opportunity for students and professionals in the field of European heritage to receive academic training in Jewish heritage.
The 12-week course (8 ECTS) will give a broad introduction into the major areas of Jewish heritage, including religious and secular architecture and art, written, oral, and intangible heritage, museums and commemoration sites, current principles and methods of salvaging, documenting, and displaying Jewish heritage, legal ownership and restitution issues, and the place of Jewish heritage in European culture.
This course will take place partly online and partly on-site in Vienna. It is designed for professionals working in the field of Jewish heritage and for graduate students contemplating a career in this sector. As visiting students at CEU, participants will study with the faculty and graduate students of one of the world’s most international universities.
Course participants will meet in person in Vienna, Austria, from January 11 to 13, 2026, for a three-day field trip. We will visit Jewish heritage institutions, NGOs and sites in the company of local experts. The course will continue with twelve on-line seminar sessions during the Winter Term (January 9 to March 31, 2026). During the term, students will develop a personal project under the supervision of CEU faculty. After successful completion of the course, the visiting students will receive a certificate from the CEU Jewish Studies Program.
The course fee is EUR 1,440. Scholarships are available for qualified applicants. The scholarship covers tuition, site fees, local transportation, and accommodation in Vienna.
